what is it?

Sodium hydroxide (a.k.a. lye, caustic soda) is an alkaline ingredient that is highly caustic.

Sodium hydroxide is used in extremely small concentrations that are not present in the final product after the formulation process as it is highly sensitizing to the skin.

what does it do?

Some BRAHSTON products are formulated with sodium hydroxide / lye during the formulation and manufacturing process where it reacts to bind the formula and maintain the proper pH of the product.

It is an essential ingredient in soap manufacturing where it functions as a cleanser and denaturing agent.
