Cocamidopropyl betaine is an ingredient in the class of alkyl betaines. The parent compound, betaine, is naturally occurring amino acid that can be isolated from sugar beets and it is a common component of the human diet. This ingredient is formulated by reacting fatty dimethyl amines from coconuts with chloroacetic acid in water solution.
